George is a British photographer and artist. Growing up during the bright lights of commercial hedonism in the eighties he wanted to work in advertising and went on to study film and 3D animation. Graduating in 1998 he quickly cofounded a multi-media agency working through the dotcom boom and bust for blue chip clients and the record industry.
But this background led George to turn away from the bright lights of the branded commercial world and in 2007 he decided to slow down and develop his arts practice. He initially investigated and developed ideas around the past, life passing, forgotten moments and childhood memories. His sculptural background helped him to also begin to build physical creations using analogue objects – composing abstract images that focused solely on colour, form, and texture. The names, brands, and identity of the objects were often deliberately hidden or disguised.
His recent work has started to look at our digital lives and what this means for our identity, often photographing images directly through the screen and then turning the results into physical sculptural objects.
George is based near Birmingham in the UK.
He still completes graphic design work for the art world, designing books and exhibitions through his design practice www.stereographic.co.uk
